I love this style of top in the summer. SERIOUSLY if you looked in my closet you would find at least 8 of these sheer flow-y tops. I probably have enough, huh? But they are so effortlessly cute when paired with some skinny jeans and heels (or sometimes flats).

What I don’t love about these tops are the price. Even at my favorite Frougie places (Target, Marshall’s & Ross) they will run $19.99 and up. Even before I started on this sewing adventure I just knew this was a rip-off. I made this top with just 1 yard of fabric I got for $3.95 from Hancock’s flat fold table.

I love this top. It came together to quickly and easily. I will be making more next summer for sure and possibly one more this year before it gets too cool.

PATTERN REVIEW

S1589

Pattern Description: Easy Learn to Sew Pattern Misses’ tank top with back interest. Sleeveless tops with scoop neckline and a-line fit. View A with open square at the shoulders or view b with cross over back.

Pattern Sizing: 4-16, I cut a 10 (for a 36″ bust and it was enough ease).

Fabric Used: Rayon Challis (?)  I’m not sure I got it from Hancock off the flat fold table.

Difficulty: 1/Novice

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes! I chose View A

Were the instructions easy to follow? They were very simple and easy to follow. As an easy to learn pattern the instructions include more information than a typical pattern.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the peek-a-boo back and the fact I was able to whip it up quite quickly. I liked that I could hem it quickly and it didn’t require bias tape (although you could use it)

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn’t make any alterations.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I just need to decide with what fabric. Yes, it was super simple.

Conclusion: Cute shirt that came together quickly and easily. I definitely would’ve paid $15 for this shirt in RTW but I made with 1 yard for $3.95

Total cost: $4.94

Pattern                                = $0.99
Rayon Challis  $3.95 x 1yd = $3.95
